Is Your Home Visitable?
The term Visitability is a term that is spoken to describe a home that is able to be visited by people of all abilities. The term was developed in HAHB's CAPS course (Certified Aging in Place Specialist). Home builders are more conscious about people with limited mobility needing easier access to homes and around the home. As a rule of thumb, for a home to be visitable it must not have a threshold so a wheelchair of walker can roll over it, 31 ¾” doorways, and the home must also have a bathroom on the first floor that allows someone with a disability to access it.
